High-quality bed linen is distinguished not only by its pleasant texture and excellent appearance – it provides a comfortable, healthy sleep. In order for the product to last as long as possible, it is necessary to provide it with proper care – washing is no exception. How to wash bed linen correctly? Our experts will tell you about this.
Features of washing different fabrics
Properly selected underwear will help you completely relax during sleep and have a good rest, and a well-chosen washing mode will help extend the product’s service life.
If we are talking about a new set, it is best to wash it for the first time by hand, and in cold water. In the future, you can safely use both manual and machine washing options, raising the temperature to 90 0 C and even pre-bleach – when it comes to white bedding sets. For colored linen, the water temperature should not exceed 40 0 C and boiling is not required at all.
Drying. Drying in a special device is allowed only for those products that have the appropriate mark on the label. In other cases, bed linen is dried naturally, away from direct sunlight, as they are harmful to the natural material.
Ironing service. Cotton fabric can be ironed, and it is desirable to do this while the material is still wet. If there is embroidery or an embossed pattern, reverse Ironing is recommended.
It is recommended to wash the dyed linen material at a temperature of 60 0 C, the finished one (impregnated with special compositions) – at a temperature not higher than 40 0 C in a delicate mode. For washing white linen bedding sets, you can use universal detergents, for colored or patterned ones-only detergents intended for delicate fabrics.
Drying. For linen materials, only a natural drying option is suitable – when using a drying device, the material will simply “sit down”.
Ironing service. It is best to iron linen while it is still dry, while allowing strong heating of the iron. You can also use an iron for a dry cloth, but in this case it is necessary to periodically spray it with water from a spray bottle.
Real silk is incredibly capricious, so it is recommended to use dry cleaning services to clean silk bed linen. If, however, you want to wash this material at home, strictly follow a few rules. First, before you start washing, don’t forget to make sure that the fabric doesn’t shed. Wash only by hand in cold water (no higher than 30 0 C) for a short period of time. Secondly, do not RUB the cloth too hard (either with your hands or with a brush). Third, you should not squeeze the product either. Do not forget to thoroughly rinse the bedding set: first use warm water, then cold.
ADVICE.To refresh the color of the silk material, you can add a little vinegar at the end of washing (at the rate of 1 teaspoon per 3 liters of water).
Drying. It is allowed only in natural conditions – no drying machines or open sun rays.
Ironing service. The silk product is ironed from the wrong side (while it is still wet) with a moderately heated iron. You can’t use the steam function. In any case, do not spray the fabric with water during Ironing – this is fraught with the appearance of water spots.
Synthetic fabrics can be washed both manually and in the washing machine, using a special mode at a temperature not higher than 60 0 C (the optimal temperature is about 40 0 C – so no pellets will appear on the fabric). Do not use bleaching agents.
Drying.Synthetic bed linen can be dried both in a special machine and in a natural way, and it is not afraid of the open rays of the sun. You can not only use heating batteries for drying.
Ironing service. You can iron synthetics with a hot iron with the steam function turned on. The material can be either dry or wet at that time. The effect will be equally good.
And finally, a few valuable tips that will help you quickly and easily wash bed linen from various fabrics:
Be sure to follow the recommendations of the fabric manufacturer indicated on the label, and strictly adhere to them.
New bed linen should be washed before use: and pillowcases and duvet covers should be turned inside out.
Do not use bleach during washing or soaking – the exception is white cotton.
Before starting washing, always distribute materials by type and color – do not mix fabrics that require different approaches during the cleaning process.
When using machine wash, do not neglect the weight limits specified by the appliance manufacturer. Try to fill the drum no more than 50% – this will ensure a delicate cleaning and a neat spin.
